Once it is complete, collapse the modifier stack of the wing in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ). Now we need to duplicate the wing, mirror it and move it to the proper positions.
Holding down the shift key in the keyboard, click on the wing. The clone options dialog box appears in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ). Choose object type as copy, and number of copies as 1. Click OK. This creates a duplicate wing, but will be hidden from view, because it overlaps with our original one. With one of the wings selected, click on the Mirror Selected Objects tool from the main toolbar in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ). In the dialog box that appears, set the options as shown in the figure and click OK.
This mirrors the selected wing. The other wing remains in the place where it was. Now move each of the wings to the positions shown in the figure.

| Combining into a whole duck in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ) - Tutorial / Lesson |
Once we are satisfied with the individual parts, we may combine them together into a single editable mesh in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ). We can do that using the connect tool. Click on the Create panel, and inside the Geometry tab, from the roll out, choose Compound objects, instead of the Standard primitives.
From the list of compound object tools, click on the Connect button. This makes the Connect tool active in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ). Click on Pick Operand button to set the mode to operand picking. Now with the Pick Operand active, clicking on any objects connects them together. Click on all the parts that form the duck. All those parts gets connected in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ). Make sure that the Pick Operand button is depressed during the whole time when you click the parts of the duck.
When you're done, go to the modify panel and right click within the modifier stack. From the menu that appears, choose Convert To: Editable Mesh. This converts the individual parts into a single duck mesh in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ). In the modify panel near the top, enter the name of the object as 'Duck'. The completed duck mesh is shown in the figure below. Save the scene as 'int-lev2-toyduck.max' |
