Creating a Camera in 3D Studio MAX ( 3DS MAX ) - Tutorial / Lesson
3D Studio MAX ( 3DS MAX ) comes with basically two types of cameras. Before going into the variations let's have a generalized view. A camera in 3D Studio MAX ( 3DS MAX ) is much like a real world camera. We can see through it, make various parameter adjustments like Focal Length, Aperture etc (You should know these if you have an idea about photography). In simpler terms, a camera is much similar to a perspective view, with much more settings in store. We can move the camera around, rotate it, animate it etc. We can create as many cameras in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ) as we like to view the scene from different angles. Perplexed? Lets get our hands dirty.

The cameras can be accessed in 3D Studio MAX ( 3DS MAX ) through the 'Cameras' tab within the 'Create' panel. To refresh your memory, the Create Panel is the first tab in the set of panels present at the right side of your 3D Studio MAX ( 3DS MAX ) window. Click on the Create tab 3ds max create from the main pane. The Create Panel itself has a number of panels within it.

The Cameras can be accessed by clicking on the 'Cameras' 3d studio max camera tab near the top of the Create panel. This switches you to the Camera panel that contains two types of cameras - 'Target' and 'Free '.

Click on the 'Free' button to choose Free-type camera. It gets highlighted. Now click at around the middle region of the teapot in the Front view. The camera gets created. The view should look like this in the 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ) window. Notice the white icon at the center. It is the camera. The blue rectangle surrounding it is the Field of vision covered by the camera. It is a Pyramid extending from the camera representing its view. Since the front view is orthographic we get a plane projection of it as a rectangle. Move on to the next page of this 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ) tutorial / lesson to view our scene through the camera
