The introduction of the new line along the nose's side has altered the shape of the nose into something really ugly. Let's touch it up. Add a vertex at the position pointed by the mouse arrow in the first figure. Connect a line as shown using the red line in the first figure.
Since the line we just created, overlaps with the adjacent one at it's curve, it causes abnormality in the model / character in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ). So add a circular set of vertices as shown in the second figure, connect them and smooth them.

Connect the vertices using a line as shown in the first figure. Then switch to the Segment mode in the modify panel, select and delete the unwanted segment as shown in the second figure (compare the two figures and you will identify the segment to be deleted)

| Overall improvement of the shape in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ) - Tutorial / Lesson |
Now that you are pretty comfortable with the spline modeling in 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ), I'm going to let you improve the model / character yourself. I'm giving below a set of snapshots, which you should refer to and improve your model / character accordingly. I have repositioned vertices in several places of the model / character. Reposition the vertices wherever you feel necessary. Keep in mind, that however ugly the model / character becomes, never lose heart. Its all part of learning. Keep on trying to improve till you feel totally satisfied. |
You can see improvements in many significant parts of the model / character. Concentrate on the cheek region as well as the forehead. I made the forehead more rounded. Look into the spline cage and you'll get a better picture about which all vertices need to be repositioned using 3D Studio MAX ( 3ds max ). |

In this figure, you can see the improvements in the nose shape. The vertices near the top of the head has been adjusted so that the width of the fore-head has been reduced, where as the total width of the model / character has been increased. Try to analyze the spline cage shown, with that of the model / character you have made. I have also refined the lips and added a slight touch of smiling expression to it. |

Congratulations. You have successfully learned how to model / character a basic human head using 3D Studio MAX (3DS MAX) all by yourself. Marvellous job!! We know that our model / character is still not perfect and misses an ear too. It's ok for now since this was just a beginning (I skipped out the ear due to two reasons - 1) It requires a little more experience from your part 2) It can be stitched later. So let's assume that our model / character is deaf ... for now :-) ). Practice doing the spline cage creation, refinement etc all over again so that you get thorough with that. Once you feel, really confident, you can move on to the next section. |
